Overview: Petit Vour Box + February, March, April Box Reviews

I have mixed feelings about the Petit Vour monthly boxes. Here's my review for 3 of the boxes and my criticisms for the subscription in general.

Petit Vour
  • monthly subscription service
  • 4 deluxe samples per box
  • natural, cruelty-free, and vegan
  • focus is on higher end products
  • Price: $15 / month

Recommended if:

  • You want to try a wide range of products.
Each box features various product types - makeup, haircare, skincare - so this won't be the box for you if you only want one type of item.
  • You are interested in high-end brands.
The box may be more enjoyable if you're already inclined to purchase from high-end brands.
  • You are looking to expand your collection of natural/cruelty-free/vegan goodies.
This is a good way for those changing up their beauty routines to test out a lot of different products and brands.
  • You want to be introduced to new brands.
In the four months I've been subbed, there have been no repeat brands.

Not recommended if:

  • You have a lot of things you wouldn't want to receive in a box.
This is the main reason why I might un-subscribe in the future. There are types of products I don't use, scents I dislike, and colors I don't wear which I have been disappointed in receiving. PV does have the option of filling out a profile to help with option preferences, but I don't think they take account for customer preferences as much as they should.
  • You would rather have cheaper, full-size items.
Each box usually comes with 1-2 full sizes and the rest are smaller samples. This could be unfortunate if you don't like the full size item/s of that month.
  •  You like spoilers.
I've noticed that some other subscriptions regularly post spoilers, which give people a chance to decide whether or not they want the box that month. PV is much more random and mysterious about it. Sometimes they reveal a specific product, sometimes they post a photo which alludes to it. It's never far enough in advance to where you can skip the box though. FYI: I'm billed on the 1st of the month, and boxes ship out between the 10th and the 20th.

Why I considered unsubscribing:

I generally shop on the budget end, so I evaluate the box on whether it's worth the price of what I would pay for the item, and not what the stated value is. I have considered cancelling because I haven't been too excited about most of the products. $15 isn't a whole lot of money, but if I'm not gonna use or like the items, I would rather buy things I know I want more.

Why I'm keeping my subscription (for now):

I do use most of the items I receive and I end up liking some more than I originally thought I would, which has made my general experience with the box a little happier. I haven't fallen in love with anything to the point where I know I'll re-purchase it, but I think the box is generally a good value.

February 2015 Box:

Balanced Guru: Scrub Me Body Scrub
Didn’t like the coffee-mint scent and I prefer more liquidy scrubs. I have used it up though, because I like body scrubs in general.

Ellovi: Mint Chocolate Body Butter
I don’t think this suited my skin because I don’t get very dry. It just felt greasy and not particularly moisturizing on my skin. I managed to use this up too, though.

Harvey Price: Damask Rose & Gardenia Perfumes
I love the scents of these. They're fresh and truly floral smelling. I still have these laying around, about half-full, but that's because I don't wear perfume regularly. I was in need of natural perfume though, so I liked receiving these.

Lily Lolo: Vegan Mascara
I don’t wear mascara, which I know is really odd. I've heard a lot of people say this is the best natural mascara, so I'm sure the general population was pleased, but I was disappointed that this was the high value item of the box.

Worth $15? Barely.

They're all products I ended up using, but aside from the perfume, I felt like I was using them just to use them and not because I enjoyed them. Most people loved this box because of the Lily Lolo mascara, but since I'm not a usual mascara wearer, I wasn't very impressed with this box.

March 2015 Box:

The Little Alchemist: Cacao & Banana Face Glow
I have loved using this mask and it’s a very good size. I’ve used it around 10 times and still have half the jar left.

Juice Beauty: Stem Cellular CC Cream - Warm Glow
This has come in handy. It’s lightly tinted and has spf 30. It has a strange herbal scent, which I don't mind in small doses, but I'm not sure I would use this regularly.

Vert Mont Perfumery: EROS Wellness Perfume
I preferred the Harvey Prince samples. This one is more intense and has notes I don’t gravitate toward (patchouli), but I’ll use it.

MSC Skincare: Lip Butter - Lavender and Spearmint
I’m not a huge fan of lavender, but the mint in this made it not so bad. I like the formula because it absorbs well, unlike others I’ve tried that are too oily or waxy.

Worth $15? Yes.

This box has been my fave! Most of the products are too pricy for me to re-purchase and they weren't out of this world/holy grail, but I enjoyed them for the box price.

April 2015 Box:

Box Naturals Luxe Towelettes - Rosewater and Lavender
I didn't try these until writing this post, so that goes to show that some products may sit around unused! These are multi-purpose wipes, but I used them to remove my makeup. It got the job done, but didn't make me feel clean and stung my eyes a little.

Suntegrity: 5-in-1 Natural Moisturizing Face Sunscreen - Medium
I prefer the Juice Beauty CC Cream. This one is more orangey and I didn't like the scent, which smelled very sunscreen-y to me. I still got use out of it though and I'm sure I'll finish it up.

Lauren B. Beauty: Nail Polish - #ImsoLA
I don't wear nail polish, so I passed it on in a swap. The two colors sent out were this fuschia-pink and a mint green.

Konjac Sponge Company: Konjac Sponge
I've been curious about these and I ended up loving it (featured it in my April favorites). It does a good job of cleansing your face and I like that you can use it with just water.

Worth $15? No.

My least favorite box. The value for me relied on the konjac sponge, which is $12 at full price, plus there are cheaper ones out there, so I felt like I didn't get a great value out of this box.

As you can see, every box hasn't been a hit for me, but I know that it's hard to please everyone. Overall, I would recommend trying out PV for at least a couple months if you can. Also, I am happy to report that the May Box was another "Yes" box and I'll be posting a review of that next week.
